Although the digital revolution has produced many amazing portraits, it has also brought many “photographers” into the business who are just not delivering the quality that people paying with hard-earned dollars deserve. Captured’s expertise delivers quality every time.

I have been a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) for the last six years, having earned the recognition from Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the largest governing body for professional photographers in the world. In January of this year, I attended the Imaging USA convention and received my Master of Photography degree, MPhotog. However, resting on one’s laurels is never “good enough” at Captured. We stay on top of the lightning-speed changes the digital age brings, continually updating our equipment, as well as our knowledge and techniques to bring the latest styles and products to our customers.

How time flies. I had recently graduated from Plaza Three Academy in Phoenix, Arizona, and my son Eric was just a baby. It took the birth of my beautiful son to make me realize that I wanted to spend my life making beautiful portraits for my clients.

In this shaky economy, everyone is cutting back on spending and looking for ways to afford some of the luxuries in life. At Captured, we have come up with a way for you to afford award-winning portraits without breaking the bank.

Captured is introducing Portrait Parties, a new program that gives you the same high-end portraits but for less money. Think of it as a Tupperware^TMparty for portraiture. The party hosts gather four to six families at their home or another beautiful location. All of the families receive a discount off the cost of our regular portraits. For their hard work, the hosts receive a percentage of the orders placed by their guests. This is a great way to gather friends or family and remember the occasion. Call the studio for more details.

Good weather sparks an increase in outdoor activities and vacations, and people like to take along the point-and-shoot camera. There are a few things you can do to make those summer snapshots real keepers.

The best time to work outdoors is when the sun is at a low angle in the sky, usually a few hours after sunrise or a few hours before sunset. If it’s midday, turn on your flash. There is a high contrast between light and shadow at that time of day, but your flash will never overpower the sun. Instead, it will fill in the deeper shadows and put a sparkle in your subject’s eyes. Conversely, if you are at a stage show or pro ball game, don’t turn your flash on for distance shots of a stage or field. Your camera’s flash only reaches 10-15 feet and will only illuminate the spectators directly in front of you. Without a flash, they become a silhouette and actually add to the scene.

If you’ve ever had your life in pictures disappear because of lost memory cards, broken camera phones or a wiped-out hard drive, you know how devastating it can be. I’ll tell you how to avoid it.

I’m concerned that ours will become the lost generation, picture-wise at least. We don’t print our photos anymore. We store them on memory cards, computers and cell phones - all prone to heartbreaking failure. At least if they are printed, we still have the memory of our daughter’s show choir competition, Grandpa’s 85th birthday party or that game-winning three-pointer. To prevent a mishap, make a CD copy of your photos the next time you upload them to your computer. Then, pick your favorites and email them to your local camera shop or drugstore to make printed copies. If your house were burning, could you get your computer out?
